• Mikele Bay Appointed to Governor’s Special Council on Gun Violence

    Release Date: 11.18.2019

    Good morning all –

I was recently appointed to the Special Council on Gun Violence (SCGV) by the Governor’s Office as a representative of the Children’s Advocacy Center Advisory Committee (CACAC) as per an Executive Order that was signed August 2019.  The Council process is moving quickly, as the final report to Commission is due March 2020.  I’ve attached the EO for reference as to the Council’s tasks and responsibilities.

I will send out information from PCCD as it becomes available.  Below are listening sessions taking place across the Commonwealth for each of the (5) identified focus areas on reducing gun violence.  Please note, the first session has already taken place.  Additionally, PCCD will be putting up a website for public comment.  As this is my first appointment to a Special Council, I’m excited for the opportunity to learn from the experts around me.

November 15 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.): Reducing Likelihood of Accidental Shootings (Lemmond Theater, Misericordia University, Dallas, PA)
November 21 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.): Combating Mass Shootings (University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA)
November 22 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.): Preventing Suicide by Firearms (Board Room, York City School District Administration Building, York, PA)
November 25 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.): Preventing Domestic Violence-Related Shootings (Bennett Pierce Living Center, Penn State University, State College, PA)
December 5 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.): Reducing Community Gun Violence (Temple University, Philadelphia, PA)

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me should you have additional questions/comments. (814-887-3493 or mtbay@mckeancountypa.org)
