• AF-CBT Training(s) in 2020

Alternatives for Families: a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT) is a trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment (EBT) designed to improve the relationships between children and caregivers in families involved in arguments, frequent conflict, physical force/discipline, child physical abuse, or child behavior problems.

Our NEW virtual trainings, mean participants can avoid travel costs and participate in the same active, case-oriented training without leaving home.

We continue to offer the popular in-person fall training in Pittsburgh, a great chance to network with clinicians from around the country and the world.

Participants will learn to implement specific techniques to decrease parent and child aggression (e.g., complete no-force agreement, safety planning), initiate discussions about abusive/aggressive experiences, provide social skills training and social support planning, implement engagement & retainment methods, discuss techniques to promote positive family communication and problem-solving routines, and implement child behavior management training.

After the initial training session, participants will take part in 12 monthly case consultation calls with the AF-CBT trainer, submit and receive feedback on session audio recordings, and will be invited to participate in an advanced web-based training.
