  • OJJDP Announces New Funding Opportunities

    Release Date: 05.29.2019

    Hi CAC Colleagues,

Please note the new federal grant solicitation around responding to opioid use:  FY19 Enhancing Community Responses to the Opioid Crisis:  Serving our Youngest Crime Victims (see below) out of OVC and due July 11th. It was specifically designed to respond to the fact that approximately 50% of child abuse cases in many areas directly tie to this crisis through neglect by addicted parents, physical abuse perpetrated by addicted parents, and child sexual abuse by folks in and out of the home due to the addiction. It is specifically written to encourage a MDT response and includes Children’s Advocacy Centers as an example of just the sort of MDTs that ought to apply (along with other victim-serving agencies). We know that many CACs are interviewing and treating kids who have witnessed their parent overdose or die from an overdose, or have been abused or neglected connected to said addiction. It’s not often that a federal agency writes a solicitation tailor-made for CACs and their MDTs. And we are delighted that DOJ continues to recognize the value and importance of the work .  So, if you are already serving these kids and families or have been just waiting for the resources to start I highly encourage you to apply for one of these 3 year grants. They are funded up to $750,000 per site total over the 3 year period. Click on the link to read more about it, get details on what is required, and to apply. Thanks for your continued work with these vulnerable children.

    Warm regards, Teresa Huizar, NCA
